Following the recent signing of our agreement with Aghadowey Stadium, the Lightning Rods will be the next of our fomulae to make their debut on the Co Londonderry circuit, on Saturday 28th January at 2pm.

The entry should include current Irish and ORCi Champion Stephen Emerson, European Champion Mervyn Emerson and British Champion Brendan McConnell, with many others also looking forward to trying out the new venue. There will be no World Championship qualifying points on offer at this meeting, but when the class returns to Aghadowey during the season proper for a handful of dates there will be the usual points available.

The Aghadowey 2L Sierra's will be licenced through ourselves as Lightning Rods in 2012, which should result in even more cars on track in what is already a well subscribed field.

During 2012, Aghadowey Stadium, Ballymena Raceway and Tullyroan Oval will work together to promote the Open Hot Rod class, an amalgamation of Aghadowey's class of the same name and the Slick Cars which ran at the other two tracks.

Open Hot Rods will be open to any type of Hot Rod oval racing car, which will include National Hot Rods and Classic Hot Rods, and for this season 2.0 Hot Rods can also run within the class. Of course the older spec Peugeot 205's and 206's etc, which made up the majority of the old Slick Car class, can be used too. Grids will be handicapped on each race day according to car spec.

During the course of the season, a 9-round Open Hot Rod Superleague will be staged between the three tracks, with 3 rounds at each. Some of the tracks may also run other Open Hot Rod meetings too.

As a non-licenced class, all drivers and mechanics will simply pay the relevant admission fee as a spectator would do on the day of racing.

The first 2012 meeting for the formula will be at Aghadowey Stadium on Saturday January 28th at 2pm.

The 2012 Rules and regulations for 2.0 Hot Rods, Lightning Rods, National Bangers, ProStocks and Junior Productions are now available to download.

To do so, click on the 'Drivers' menu above, select 'Formulae and Rules' and select your required class of racing.

ProStocks drivers should note that a further change has been made to the draft rules issued recently concerning the phasing out of some of the current cars which will become obsolete during 2012.

Drivers in all applicable formulae should be aware that the rules regarding the painting of roof/grade colours will be much more strictly enforced in 2012, and they should bear this in mind when preparing cars for the new season.
