National Hot Rods Back In Action This Saturday Night
It's Saturday Night Thunder time again at Nuttscorner Oval this weekend, September 4th, when the National Hot Rods return to contest Round 5 of their 2011 Wash 'n' Dash World Series. Portadown's Gary Woolsey holds a slender 4 point lead over former World Champion Keith Martin in the latest standings, and Keith indeed swept to a heat and final double at the last Nuttscorner Oval meeting. Glenn Bell, Mark Heatrick, John Christie and Stewart Doak will be others hoping to cash in on the night for a useful haul of vital points, whilst a dark horse could be Wayne Woolsey, who made a winning return to domestic racing at Ballymena recently. That meeting saw an excellent grid of cars, and they will be joined on Saturday night by Scottish star Wullie Hardie who is currently riding high in the English World Series.

Also in action are the 2.0 Hot Rods, where current form man Gary Wilson will be looking for his third trophy in as many Nuttscorner Oval meetings, with Derek McMillan looking to do likewise in the Junior Productions. This is the last chance for the young drivers to gather points ahead of their Irish Championship next week, so the action should be fast and furious. Completing the line up are the ProStocks, with recent winners, Thomas Agnew, Adrian McKinstry, Ryan Abernethy and Billy Finnegan jnr sure to be amongst the front runners. First race on Saturday night leaves the grid at 7.15pm.

Emerson Crowned Lightning Rod British Champion
On Sunday 29th August, Antrim Lightning Rod driver Stephen Emerson was our lone entrant for the Lightning Rods British Championship at Arena Essex. After a fine display which also included a qualifying heat win, Stephen romped home to win the title and add it to his European and ORCi Championship wins for 2010. Congratulations to Stephen from everyone at Nuttscorner Oval.

Latest ProStocks Points and Grades Online
The latest ProStocks points and regradings are now available, with the chart headed by the two major champions in the division. Current Irish title holder Dave Morrison leads the way, with recently crowned Irish Open Champion Ryan Abernethy chasing hard in second. These new grades come into effect from this Sunday's meeting at Nutts Corner Raceway.

With no meeting ourselves at Nuttscorner Oval this weekend, some of our other classes have 'away' trips to keep them busy. The 2.0 Hot Rods contest Round 2 of the LJN DeSigns/Hoosier Tires Series at Ballymena Raceway on Friday August 25th, whilst in the Lightning Rods the Emerson brothers, Stephen and Mervyn, will be competing at Arena Essex on Sunday for the British Championship. Both will then head to Eastbourne on Monday to take in the Spedeworth Bank Holiday fixture, before the formula have their latest outing at Nutts Corner Raceway on Wednesday September 1st.

Wilson Crowned King of Nuttscorner
Gary Wilson used all his experience to clinch victory in a thrilling King of Nuttscorner for the 2.0 Hot Rods at Nuttscorner Oval on Sunday. The heats had fallen to David McMenemy and Glen Hetherington, but consistency saw Denver McLean earn pole spot and he was surely everyone’s favourite for the victory. But the weather had decided to intervene, with a sudden downpour leaving the track awash just as the LJN DeSigns-backed final lined up. Adam Heatrick had driven well to claim the outside of the front row, with Wilson third on the grid.
It took a couple of attempts to get the final going, with David McMenemy finding the back straight wall at the first time of asking. McLean settled into an early lead with the cars slip sliding all over the treacherous track, but as Heatrick dropped back Denver soon had Wilson looking for the top spot. Hetherington still wasn’t out of contention either, but as Wilson got through on the inside to take it up all eyes were on Davy Clarke, who had roared through from grid nine to now lie second. McLean took the spot back from Clarke later on, but Wilson was home and dry to his second feature race win in as many weeks, from McLean, Clarke and an impressive Ed Litter from well down the grid.

Former National, European and Irish Champion Nigel Jackson returned to the fold in the Lightning Rods in the Andy Cochrane car, and he was soon back in the groove with a fine win in the second heat. Earlier Aaron Stewart claimed a welcome victory in the first encounter, before Randalstown driver Tim Hazlett stamped his authority on the final in no uncertain terms. Ironically driving Jackson’s old car, the young driver stormed through from the reds to leave the more established names trailing in his wake for what was an emphatic victory, with Stephen Emerson runner-up.

Derek McMillan once again was the star turn in the Junior Productions, as he followed his two second places from the heats with yet another final win. Jack Gilpin and Lee McCracken were the heat winners, but the day will no doubt be remembered for the horrendous accident in the final. McCracken, Deborah McCann and Jordan Rochford all thundered into the wall at full pace entering the back straight, and whilst the cars were badly damaged it was a testimony to the strength of them that no one was injured.

The topsy-turvy entries in the ProStocks continued once again, as we dropped from almost thirty at the last meeting right down to the low teens. Billy Finnegan Jnr continued his good recent run of form with wins in both heats, and the instant upgrading to yellow for the final, coupled with the beginnings of a downpour nearing the end, was enough to allow Adrian McKinstry to steal through for the feature race win.

Many Thanks to our meeting sponsor, LJN DeSigns of Ballykelly.
