The new Superstox class at Tullyroan Oval is proving to be a real hit, and Aughnacloy’s Kyle Beattie underlined his star quality by going through the racecard unbeaten during Sunday’s Greer’s of Antrim Volvo sponsored meeting. There were pleasing turnouts in all the formulae on show with other feature race wins for Adam Hylands, Martin O'Flaherty, Micky McFall and Dean McCrory whilst Willy Ogilby took the honours in the Caravan Destruction Derby.

The field of Superstox made double figures for the first time as the formula grows in popularity, boosted by the visit of Scottish superstar Tony Lattka and debuts from Gary Jackson, Nathan Beattie and Petie Donnelly. Kyle Beattie wasted little time in moving ahead in heat one, coming home to the flag well clear of Gary Grattan and Lattka. Kyle’s brother Nathan set the pace in the second race of the day in his ex-Shaun Brooker car, but had to give way to his older brother as Kyle swept home to his second victory of the day, this time ahead of Denver Grattan and Gary Grattan.
The two heat wins saw Beattie upgraded to the star grade for the final, but any thoughts the Grattan’s and Lattka had of overturning his form proved to be unfounded. Kyle breezed away from the rest of the stars at the off, and eased past pacesetter Rab Stewart with five laps to run to land a very emphatic hat-trick indeed. Stewart held on for second ahead of Denver Grattan, Gary Grattan and welcome visitor Lattka.

It was round one of the Wash ‘n’ Dash Challenge Series for the 2.0 Hot Rods, and the racing was full of drama and excitement from the off. The final saw Adam Hylands, Shane Murray, Wayne Woolsey, Stephen Emerson and Adam Heatrick fighting tooth and nail at the front, with literally inches between all the cars for the majority of the race. Hylands was having to absorb massive pressure from those behind in an enthralling encounter, which only eased when Murray and Woolsey clashed on the back straight. This gave Hyland the breathing space he needed to sweep home to victory ahead of Emerson and Murray.
In the earlier heats, Woolsey had taken the flag in both but following an indiscretion after the final he was removed from all the afternoon’s results. That handed the heat one victory to Hylands, with Davy Potter taking the second race of the day.

Antrim ace Dean McCrory was a double victor in the Junior Productions, taking victory in heat two as well as the final which doubled up as the opening round of the Murrays of Randalstown Young Guns Series. It could have been the day’s second triple success, but Dean was demoted from the win in the opening heat for a jump start which handed the flag to Bradley McKinstry.
Shane McMillan had the final under control as he led for the majority of the proceedings, although McCrory was all over him like a rash. McMillan was able to cover off his every advance though, until Dean got a run down his inside with less than 5 to go, before going on to take the chequered flag. Dan Campbell came through for the runner up slot ahead of Jaimie McCurdy, after McKinstry was docked to fourth for contact.

The Lightning Rods again produced some frantic action in their big Sierra’s, with action aplenty and also their fair share of penalties too! The opening heat saw a welcome return to victory lane for Brendan McConnell, as the reigning ORCi Champion made a late charge for the flag ahead of Irish Champion Jordan Rochford and Nigel Jackson. Coleraine’s Dane Ferry was the victor in heat two, racing home ahead of Jackson and Martin O’Flaherty this time.
The Greer’s of Antrim final was fraught stuff to say the least, with a number of incidents all around the track. O’Flaherty didn’t let it distract him though, as he pulled clear at the front into a lead he would never lose. Ferry just couldn’t get on terms with the Ardglass man though, and he sportingly settled for second ahead of a very sharp looking Winston Weir in third.

European Champion Chris ‘Gunner’ Lattka from Scotland and Republic of Ireland star Colm O’Sullivan boosted the Stock Rods grid, and they went on to serve up three fantastic races. Jonny McMillan used his yellow grading to good effect with a flag to flag win in the first heat, but he was made to work much harder in the second event of the day. He was controversially removed from the lead by the following pack with just three laps to go, and Race Control then awarded him the win under the Malcolm Girling rule which saw the race declared at the three laps to go stage.
The final had everything from start to finish, and through it all Ballymena driver Micky McFall found himself holding the baby ahead of Lattka. Micky used all his experience to bring his Nova home to the flag for a fine win, with Gunner upholding Scottish honour in second and Raymond Harper in third.

The huge crowd were there to see the popular Caravan Destruction Derby, which saw those menaces of the road smashed to pieces in a real fun event. It was Birches driver Willy Ogilby who took the spoils as the last one moving with a caravan, or trailer really, still attached. Lee Johnston run him close, but Ogilby pulled off an excellent move to rip Johnston’s caravan off his car and put him out of the running.

Tullyroan Oval in association with Spedeworth Motorsports had a huge number of cars in action at Lochgelly Raceway in Scotland at the weekend, and whilst we may have missed out on the feature event we had more than our fair share of wins across the weekend.

In the National Hot Rods, after Keith Martin had taken a heat win it was England's Chris Haird who took the victory in the European Championship on Saturday night. Keith chased him hard in second with Adam Maxwell recording a career best third spot ahead of Glenn Bell and Gary Woolsey. The final will long be remembered though for a frightening accident whcih saw our own Andrew Murray with a very badly damaged car indeed. On Sunday, Haird was equally as dominant in the Scottish Open Championship as he lifted the Malcolm Chesher Memorial Trophy in superb style. Woolsey took third in this one, with Christie fourth and Maxwell fifth.

In the 2.0 Hot Rods, Adam Hylands finally got his hands on a title by taking victory in Sunday's Internations Cup. Our drivers dominated proceedings over the 2 days, and on Sunday Wayne Woolsey and Shane Murray chased Hylands over the line in the Internations decider. Hylands and Woolsey had earlier shared the heat wins. On Saturday night, the final victory fell to Woolsey ahead of Hylands.

The Ninja Karts again provided some outstanding entertainment, with the Tullyroan Oval youngsters in the thick of things all weekend. On Saturday Adam McFall took the opening heat win, before Jake Woolsey pounced on the final bend to grab victory over local lad Keir Millar in the final. Stuart Emerson was third ahead of Niall Cregan, McFall and Matthew Nicholl. On Sunday Woolsey won the opener before McFall took the final honours this time, ahead of impressive Scottish lad Millar. Woolsey was third ahead of Emerson and Cregan, with Nicholl and Aaron Ward both getting home in the top ten too.

Although not a formula we run, our resident Mr Starter Ryan Wright was in action on Sunday in his new Saloon Stock Car. Whilst he mixed it with the best of the locals during the day, fifth place in heat one was the best of Ryan's finshes although he was the fastest Saloon on track all day and was in the midst of much of the on-track drama.

All in all a superb weekend with HRP at Lochgelly, with an excellent meeting run on a circuit with an infrastructure which is second to none.

On one of the biggest afternoon’s of the season at Tullyroan Oval, Coleraine ace Kieran McIvor became the first ever Northern Ireland winner of the prestigious Unlimited National Bangers Shamwreck title on Sunday. Against a quality field including drivers from England, Scotland and Belgium, Kieran followed his qualifying heat win with victory in the main title race too.

There was action aplenty right across the day from the National Bangers, keeping the capacity crowd on their toes as the drivers battled to destroy each other and lay claim to the Shamwreck crown. Local outfit Team Buckle took the first honours of the day as Steven Bolton took the chequered flag in the first heat which saw the massive limo of Dublin’s Stevo McGrath absolutely obliterated. Benny Connolly chased Bolton home. In heat two, Bolton’s team-mate McIvor was the star of the show, and he steered his Toyota home for a great win amidst yet more carnage. Davey O’Connor followed him home ahead of 2011 Shamwreck winner Mike Flaherty.
The two heat winners then lined up at the front of the Shamwreck 2013 Final, and the action around the raceway was simply awesome as some massive hits went in. McIvor was showing a cool head at the front though, and kept Bolton at arm’s length all the way to the flag to record the biggest win of his career to date. Behind the delighted Ulster duo, Callum Hall from England took the final podium spot in third.
The Allcomers race will forever be remembered for a mass track blockage at the Annaghmore end, where the majority of the field bundled into a huge pile up. O’Connor was one of the few that survived to carry on and take the flag. The day then finished with the James ‘The Cat’ Smith Memorial Destruction Derby, which was settled with a massive head on between Darren Gaffney and English star Steven Tyson. Both couldn’t continue and thus shared the prize. Belgian traveller Bart Versmissen was awarded the Entertainer of the Day award as he got himself involved in everything that he possibly could during the afternoon, whilst Brian Johnston took the NIOval TV award for Best Presented Car in his immaculate Mk1 Granada Coupe.

Another crowd pleaser were the Ninja Karts for the 6-11 year olds, which saw debuts for Graham Meek and Molly Heatrick. The final winner at the first ever meeting two weeks ago, Adam McFall, was the man on a mission when he stole through to grab heat one in the final stages ahead of Jake Woolsey. Stuart Emerson then took his first ever win in heat two ahead of the impressive Mark Crawford. The sixteen young chargers set off at a fantastic pace in the final, and soon Niall Cregan had worked his way to the front of the pack, with Woolsey in hot pursuit. After a late race caution period, Woolsey outfoxed Cregan at the restart to speed home to a fantastic victory. With a World Champion father and grandfather, young Jake certainly does look to be a chip off the old block! Cregan took second spot, ahead of Sophie Willis doing her bit for girl power in third!

Once again the ProStocks fielded a grid of well over 30 cars, including an outing for 2.0 Hot Rod star Wayne McClure, and the racing was tight and closely contested all day long. Allen Cherry took another win in the first race of the day ahead of Tam Agnew, before former World Cup winner Agnew went one better by recording a hard fought win in the second encounter of the day. Strabane’s Dean Fleming had followed Tam over the line in that one, and he then repeated Agnew’s feat by going one better in his next outing. That one saw Fleming take the honours in the CP Dynes supported final, with Deborah McCann upholding the female honours with a fine second spot. Cyril Hawe had his best finish in a final to date in third.

It was certainly a great day out at Tullyroan Oval for the Coleraine racers, as not only did Kieran McIvor take the Shamwreck title but Dane Ferry also took the Lightning Rods final winner’s trophy back to the Co Londonderry town. Carrick man Gary Beggs steered his ex-Stephen Emerson championship winning car to victory in the opener ahead of Nigel Jackson and last weekend’s star Francie Allen. Beggs then had to be content with second in heat two behind Ardglass man Martin O’Flaherty. In the feature race final, former European and National Champion Jackson settled into the early lead and invited the rest to wrestle it from him. The man to do it was Dane Ferry, who pulled off an excellent pass around the wide outside line to land a fantastic and well deserved victory. Jackson held on for the runner up spot, ahead of NI Points Champ David Hearst and Beggs.

The ever popular Reliant Robins had a pleasing entry that reached double figures, including debuts for Jamie White, John Stewart and 2.0 Hot Rod ace Adam Heatrick, and they produced three excellent races. Billy McClean took the opener ahead of newcomer White, before Stewart in his first ever meeting took the chequered flag in style in heat two ahead of McClean and Irish Champion Ian Bolton. In the final, lady racer and trophy girl Haley Bevan looked like she might cause an upset as she built a decent lead, but Stewart was finally able to reel her in and take it up. Stewart was ahead entering the closing stages before the pressure from Bolton behind saw him get into all sorts of bother on the back straight. A huge rollover followed, allowing Bolton to nip through to claim the spoils. Ian himself had been a rollover victim earlier in the day, and in his true Mr Entertainer style he then marched into the crowd and gave his trophy to a young fan!
