Tullyroan Oval would like to congratulate Glenn Bell on lifting the most coveted title in short oval motorsport, the CP Dynes National Hot Rods Championship of the World, at Ipswich on Sunday. After a superb drive from 14th on the grid in the wet, Glenn edged past defending champion Malcolm Blackman to power his way to gold ahead of Gavin Murray, Matt Simpson and Kym Weaver.
Randalstown's Shane Murray was also in excellent championship winning form, as he successfully defended his 2.0 Hot Rods British Championship in another stunning drive. Another of our drivers, Derek Martin (who had also taken a heat win earlier), held the early advantage, but a determined Murray hung on doggedly on the outside line to eventually take up the running after what must have seemed an eternity on the wide line. Shane came home to land the British title in some style ahead of another of our own, Wayne Woolsey. Martin came home fourth behind England's Paul Wright. On Sunday, The British Revenge race went the way of Mark Madill after a stunning finish, with Adam Hylands and Andrew Murray completing a Tullyroan Oval rout in second and third.
The Lightning Rods were also in action in their British Championship, and that saw both heats taken by our drivers through David Hearst and Richard Stewart. In the final though our boys were out of luck, as Diggy Smith swept to victory.
There was also some cheer in the National Hot Rods support races, as Adam Maxwell took a fine heat win before Mark Heatrick took Saturday night's final in some style in his Mercedes.
