Points and Grades

Like most short oval motor racing, the classes that compete at Nuttscorner Oval are separated into different groups according to the skill and experience of the particular driver. This handicap system is employed in the starting grid for each race, with the four grades separated at the race start. The “novice”, or white grade, start at the front of the grid. As drivers accumulate more points, they then move through the yellow grade, onto the blue grade, and eventually to the “star” or red grade. Each grade is identified by the colour of the roof on each car.

Notable exceptions to this grading system are for championship events, where in many cases reverse grid heats are used to determine the starting order for the championship final. The elite formula of the short ovals, the National Hot Rods, also have their own grid system, where currently a closed grid formation sees the highest average scorer in previous meetings start at the back of the grid in all heats and finals at the meeting.

In addition to the white, yellow, blue and red roofed cars, major titleholders also carry roof decorations to signify their status.
